Have you ever wondered what happens when you go really, really high up, like, 8,000 feet above sea level?
Well, the main thing is, the air gets thinner! This means there’s less air pressure pushing down on you, and, crucially, fewer oxygen molecules packed into the same amount of air.
For some people, this thinner air can cause something called ‘altitude sickness.’ You might feel a bit dizzy, get a headache, or even feel short of breath, especially if you’re not used to it.
It’s why hikers, skiers, and even people flying to certain cities need to be aware. Your body needs time to adjust, or ‘acclimatize,’ to those lower oxygen levels. So, drink water, take it easy, and enjoy the views!
