Hey everyone! Ever heard the term “global warming” and wondered what it actually means? Let’s break it down simply.
Think of our planet, Earth, like a giant greenhouse. Naturally, certain gases in our atmosphere, called “greenhouse gases” like carbon dioxide and methane, act like a blanket, trapping some of the sun’s heat. This is good; it keeps our planet warm enough to live on! But, human activities, like burning fossil fuels for energy, driving cars, and even cutting down forests, are releasing way too much of these gases into the air. This thickens that “blanket,” trapping more and more heat.
So, what happens when Earth gets a fever? We see glaciers and ice caps melting, causing sea levels to rise. This threatens coastal cities and islands. We also experience more extreme weather – more intense heatwaves, longer droughts, and stronger storms and floods. It affects our agriculture, our wildlife, and frankly, our way of life.
It sounds scary, but there’s good news: we can do something! By using less energy, choosing renewable sources like solar and wind, driving less, and even planting trees, we can help reduce these harmful emissions. Every little bit helps.
