Hey everyone, and welcome back! Today, we’re tackling a hot topic: exactly which states have made weed, or cannabis, legal? It can be pretty confusing with laws constantly changing, so let’s break it down simply.
As of mid-2025, recreational adult-use cannabis is legal in 24 states, plus Washington D.C.! These are Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware – which starts adult sales August 1st, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, and Washington. That’s nearly half the country!
Beyond recreational, medical cannabis is legal in even more places – over 40 states and several territories permit its use for various health conditions. This means a doctor can recommend it for specific ailments.
Now, a super important note: even where it’s legal, rules vary! There are age limits, usually 21, and strict limits on how much you can possess or grow. And remember, it’s still federally illegal, and local laws can add more layers of complexity, so always double-check state and local regulations!
So, while the green wave is spreading, always be informed and know the specifics for where you are. Stay safe, stay smart, and thanks for watching!
