What are Triglycerides? Your Body’s Energy Bank Explained!

Ever heard of triglycerides? They’re often mentioned alongside cholesterol, but what exactly are they?

Simply put, triglycerides are a type of fat, or lipid, found in your blood. They are the most common type of fat in your body. Think of them as your body’s energy piggy bank. Your body uses them for energy.

When you eat, your body converts any calories it doesn’t need right away into triglycerides. These are then stored in your fat cells for later use. Your liver can also produce them.

Your body needs some triglycerides for good health. But, having too many can be a problem! High levels can increase your risk of heart disease, heart attack, and stroke.

So, how do you keep them in check? Eating a heart-healthy diet with fewer unhealthy fats and simple sugars, along with regular physical activity, are key! Limiting alcohol also helps.
