What Are Primary Colors? The Simple Truth About Color!

Have you ever wondered where all the amazing colors around us come from? It’s like magic, but it’s actually simple science!

Meet the superstars of the color world: primary colors! These are special because you can’t create them by mixing any other colors together. They’re the building blocks for EVERYTHING else you see.

For painters, or when you think about pigments, the primary colors are red, yellow, and blue. Think about it – you don’t mix green and orange to get red, right?

But here’s where the fun begins! When you mix any two primary colors, you get what we call a “secondary color.” Red and yellow make orange, yellow and blue make green, and red and blue make purple.

Now, for something a little different! When we talk about light, like on your TV or phone screen, the primary colors are actually red, green, and blue. This is how our eyes see color!

And unlike paints, where mixing all the primaries often makes a muddy brown or black, mixing all three light primaries – red, green, and blue – creates white light!

So, while “red, yellow, and blue” are what most of us learn as primary colors in art class, remember that light has its own set: red, green, and blue! Understanding these foundational colors helps us appreciate all the vibrant shades in our world.
